What is Cinderella Disorder?


Traditionally it has been believed that women should be gentle, docile, quiet, should be without any fault, ie the paragon of beauty charm . Though we love the princesses of Disney, but we can find some effect of patriarchy, also some of the Disney princesses suffered from psychological disorders. The Cinderella complex was first described by Colette Dowling. It does seem that Cinderella has Dependent Personality Disorder (DPD).

It is based on the idea of feminity portrayed in the story , where a women is beautiful, graceful, polite, supportive, hardworking, and is also dependent on others and always have an attitude to please others. Not all women who enjoy the traditional roles suffer from Cinderella Complex . Many women maintains good partnership in equal decision making and is mutually dependent on each other. But if the fear of living is causing a great anxiety, then that person must seek help from a professional Psychologist or Psychotherapist . A psychologist can help to overcome fears, anxiety, and will improve the quality of life.
